WAILON HEADLINES CONCERT SERIES

IN SESSION: CHRIS WISKI

By Lucas Garrett, Nippertown ON FEB 18, 2023

ALBANY – The world of music has tons of room for all sorts of acts, ranging from solo to large bands. And within that, too, are all sorts of genres and subsets, from original music to tribute acts. For the latter, WailOn is perhaps one of the best examples this area has, musically speaking. Fans of Waylon Jennings, and all of the great, rich country classic tunes, will get a kick out of this band: they know the material, and they honor it so well by playing it meticulously.

Incorporating new music into their repertoire, the band is taking the new model of their tribute act for a spin at Lark Hall on March 4. To purchase your ticket for the event, please click here. I had a chance to sit down with front-man and bandleader, Chris Wisniewski, ahead of the show. What follows is our conversation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Waylon Jennings and Outlaw Country Tribute “WailOn” Keeping Classic Country Alive

Schenectady, NY, April 27, 2021 — Introducing a new tribute show dedicated to celebrating the classic country sounds of the 1960’s and 1970’s, as embodied by country superstar Waylon Jennings and his band the Waylors. WailOn - Tribute to Waylon Jennings and Outlaw Country has pulled together some of the best players around to pay loving homage to the music Waylon and his band produced.

WailOn recreates a full 70's era Waylon Jennings and the Waylors stage show with nods to outlaw country greats, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and modern “outlaws” like Cody Jinks and Chris Stapleton. Featuring Chris Wiski as "Waylon" (Loon Suit, Legendary Losers, Gavel Down, Alter Ego, The Spirit of Johnny Cash, Dogtown Cadillac), Paula Bradley as "Jessi" (Dogtown Cadillac) - and the WailOn band: Archie Anderson, guitar/vocals (Steven L Smith Band, South Street Saints, The Spirit of Johnny Cash, Dogtown Cadillac); Les Wheeler, guitar/harmonica/vocals (The Spirit of Johnny Cash, Dogtown Cadillac); Joseph Woodul, drums (The Silver Arrow Band); Roger Noyes, pedal steel (Rusticator) and Kevin Maul (Robin & Linda Williams' band, The Burns Sisters band, The Lustre Kings, Billy Eli,  the Nouveaux Honkies, Miss Paula and the Twangbusters). Since 2015, multiple members of WailOn have also been honing their classic country skills as the backing musicians for fellow tribute group, The Spirit of Johnny Cash - consistently packing 500 to 800-seat theaters to capacity in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

The band is currently working on bookings with mid to large theaters around the country and is actively looking for local shows as well. Their next show is at the historic Strand Theater in Hudson Falls, NY on May 8 at 7:30 PM; tickets $15, social distancing and Covid protocols followed; limited to 100 people.
